Successful Musicians
Because of Their
“Mewses”
Anne Leighton / Writer
“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
can be judged by the way its animals are treated."
- Mahatma Gandhi
Anne Leighton is interested in sharing the
emotional connection of kindness and success,
using the relationship model of successful
musicians’ love of cats. She offers the hypothesis
that kindness offers more constructive, supportive
and attractive channels for career success than
cruelty. She presents stories how popular music
artists have connected with domestic and will cats
through the years. She shares info about work
she’s done, publicizing Grand Funk Railroad’s
benefit concerts for Florida’s Safe Harbor Animal
Hospital. Anne’s 30-year involvement as North
American tour publicist for Jethro Tull has
included comparing notes with group leader Ian
Anderson. He’s spoken of his work with small wild
cats, and she introduced him to two North
American charities—Best Friends Animal
Sanctuary and the Paw Project. Renaissance’s
Annie Haslam has donated paintings for
auctions with animal rescue organizations.
