Katherine Butler
Katherine Butler is Associate Professor and British Academy Mid-Career
Research Fellow at Northumbria University. Her research focuses on the
musical culture of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England,
spanning topics including court music, music in mythology, science and
medicine, book history and popular song. She is the author of Music in
Elizabethan Court Politics (2015) and co-editor of Music, Myth, and Story in
Medieval and Early Modern Culture (2019), Byrd Studies in the Twenty-First
Century (2023), and the Routledge Companion to Early Modern Music and
Literature (forthcoming 2025). Her current research traces the
widespread and varied place of round and catch-singing in British
society, c.1550-1650.
